But before you call, let’s first talk about the different species and what types of prevention and extermination procedures are required to remove them from your home or business.
There are six common species of cockroaches to look out for in California homes and businesses. They are (click on a type of roach to jump to its description):
Let’s explore each species in a little more detail.
German cockroaches make up the majority share of cockroach infestations in the United States. They are also considered to be the “most economically important urban pest in the United States and throughout the World,” says E-Pest Supply. They are the most common species found in homes, apartments, restaurants, and other structures. They are about 1/2 to 5/8 inches long, and their most distinguishing feature is two dark stripes across the back of the head.
Usually, you’ll be quite aware of a German cockroach infestation. But, just for the sake of covering all our bases, here is a list of common signs of a German cockroach infestation:
If you notice any of the signs of German cockroach infestations, then contact us for roach removal in Sacramento right away. Cockroaches are known to carry several infectious diseases and parasites. So, taking immediate action is always preferred whenever German cockroaches are concerned.
Due to the distinctive brown bands along their bodies, brown-banded cockroaches are easily distinguished from other species. Rarely growing to more than 1/2 inch long, brown-banded cockroaches are also much smaller than their relatives. These cockroaches are common in California, and you’ll generally find them infesting homes and apartments rather than restaurants and businesses.
When inspecting your home for brown-banded cockroaches, make sure you check everywhere. Don’t leave any crack, crevice, or piece of furniture unturned. These cockroaches are excellent hiders. You’re more likely to find droppings and cast skins than live roaches.
If you have noticed any signs of a brown-banded cockroach infestation in Sacramento, then contact Millennium Termite & Pest for roach control and removal services immediately. Brown-banded cockroaches carry diseases and breed rather quickly. Therefore, speed is of the essence whenever dealing with these pests.
While german and brown-banded roaches tend to infest interior spaces, Asian (oriental) cockroaches are usually found outside. Asian cockroaches look very similar to German cockroaches but behave entirely differently. Rather than infesting dry and secluded areas, these cockroaches prefer shade and moist locations. Asian cockroaches also fly and are attracted to light sources (like moths).
Asian cockroaches are usually an outdoor-only type of pest. However, interior infestations do happen. Whether inside or outside, the most common sign of an Asian cockroach infestation is the presence of adult roaches.
If you have an Asian (oriental) cockroach infestation, then contact our Sacramento roach control specialists at your next convenience. Since these pests are rarely found inside, they don’t pose as much of a threat to your health and safety. However, if you have them inside, then don’t hesitate to give us a call.
Smokybrown cockroaches are very similar to American cockroaches. They grow to about 1 inch long and are darker, mahogany color. Both the males and the females have wings longer than the length of their bodies.
Smokybrown cockroaches are rather rare in Northern California and the Sacramento area. But infestations do occur when the pests are brought in by accident (usually through the mail). The most common sign of a smokybrown cockroach infestation is the visible presence of adult roaches. They are typically found in attics and gutters. You may also find their droppings and egg casings, but since they like to occupy places people rarely visit, that isn’t likely.
If you do have a smokybrown cockroach infestation, then contact us for roach removal in Sacramento right away. Again, the faster you start a pest management program, the better your chances of eradicating your cockroach infestation once and for all.
American cockroaches have several other names, including waterbugs, flying water bugs, and palmetto bugs. They typically grow to about 1.5 inches in length and are a dark reddish-brown. Males have wings that are longer than their bodies, whereas the female’s wings don’t extend as far. Their most distinguishing feature, however, is their ability to produce a foul odor when threatened. Many people compare the smell to rotting palmettos (hence the palmetto bug nickname).
When American cockroaches infest interior spaces, they typically group in open spaces. You’ll find them near drainpipes and in other damp, warm spaces. However, they are usually found outside. When outside, they are commonly found near swimming pools and in moist, shady areas with lots of groundcovers. They are also found feeding on book spines, clothing, syrup, and palmettos.
The most common signs of an American cockroach infestation are:
If you have an American cockroach infestation, then don’t worry. The Sacramento roach control experts here at Millennium Termite & Pest are always standing by to give you a helping hand.
Female Turkestan cockroaches are usually around 1 inch in length and are dark-brown or black. The males, however, are smaller than the females and have brownish-orange or red coloring. Both the males and the females have wings. Male Turkestan cockroaches have wings that are yellowish-brown in color and extend beyond their abdomen. Females, on the other hand, have short, roundish wings with light-colored stripes along the edges.
While typically found outdoors flying around at night, Turkestan cockroaches will occasionally move indoors during peak population (usually the middle of summer). Just like Asian cockroaches, Turkestan cockroaches fly and are attracted to light. They can be found living near water and in electrical boxes, cracks in the concrete, compost piles, fallen leaves, and other types of groundcover.
If you find Turkestan cockroaches in your home or business, then your best course of action is enlisting the help of us for roach control and removal services.
